Wheelchair accessibility was paramount for this single-family home in Calgary. To accomplish this goal, we began with a bedroom with attached bathroom, installed with a variety of wheelchair-friendly fixtures. In addition, we focused on oversized entrance doors and floors to make it easier to get around the basement in the wheelchair.
With this said, we also wanted to provide many of the typical touches we would with any other basement, such as a textured ceiling, level 4 finish drywall, and 5 mm luxury vinyl plank flooring. We also provided 15 LED potlights, Decora plugs and switches, as well as our TV package. This includes raised plug, Internet and TV as well as an in-wall conduit with HDMI. We also ran additional TV and internet to the bedroom.

One of the unique additions for this basement was a set of oversized reclaimed wooden barn doors for easier wheelchair usage. Along with installing these handmade doors, we also added safety items to ensure they did not fall off, along with making sure they closed softly for additional safety.
